CASA COFFEES = PARENT NETWORKING = PREVENTION

Many parents, especially at the middle and high school levels, have never really met and talked, even though their children are in constant communication.
If you reside in the Manhasset Union Free School District, it’s easy to host a CASA Coffee.

Small meetings called “CASA Coffees,” give parents an opportunity to share ideas on how issues of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use affect their children and how they can work together to monitor and combat problems they identify.

The aim is to bring together the parents of kids’ “social clusters.” Many parents, especially at the middle and high school levels, have never really met and talked, even though their children are in constant communication.

CASA Coffees help parents to:

  • Understand the pressures children face, even at an early age, regarding the use of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs.

  • Learn about each others’ rules to effectively squelch claims that “everyone else is doing it.”

  • Develop reasonable shared guidelines regarding curfews, age-appropriate social activities, and the like.

  • Continue the communication process, by trading phone numbers and email addresses.
